Well, the fateful moment has come. I was helping a friend with edits on her book. I finally finished the second round thereof, and was all ready to copy/paste them into an e-mail to her. I had saved the document and everything and was amidst composing the e-mail when my Braille Sense started acting up. Knowing the battery might die soon, I reset the device and plugged it in. I then attempted to open the file so I could repeat the copy/paste process. I was mildly frustrated, but I had no idea what would happen next—my file was totally and utterly corrupted. I've reset or switched the device off before when a file was open and never had this issue, and simply not if I had saved the file. If I hadn't, sometimes I'd wind up with a blank document, but this time I can't even access that. The word-processor just freezes. In all the three years that I have used the Braille Sense, I have never experienced anything like this before. So these were the troubleshooting methods I tried:
* Resetting the device and re-opening the document, but it stops loading at 30% and will not let me access what has been loaded.
* Hard-resetting the device and re-opening the document; same result
* Inserting the document into another document, but it's still stuck at 30% processed.
* Converting the document to another filetype, but this failed with a message about "cannot find disk" or whatever.
* Copying the document to my thumb-drive, but even though it says it's been copied but it's nowhere in sight.
Because of the fact that I've reset the device, I cannot access what was previously on the clipboard, if that were even possible anyway. The only option I have left, it seems, is to hook my Braille Sense to my computer when I get back to school tomorrow and attempt recovery through that medium.
Any suggestions? I am beyond livid right now. And if any of you got the reference from the topic title, props to you.

Addendum: Just for shits and giggles, I tried opening another file. The same thing happened. I think this is a much bigger problem than I anticipated. FML
Okay, since the battery started it all, I removed it, re-inserted it, reset the device, and then powered it off and back on. Other files are accessible now, but the file with edits is still not. Will troubleshoot this on my PC tomorrow, but I think I'm pretty much screwed. :/
Well, topic resolved, although this is not to say it was resolved satisfactorally. I hooked my Braille Sense up to my laptop today and attempted opening the file with Word. I was given a dialog box with instructions on two methods of recovery, but neither worked. Oh well.
wow that is crazy that nothing worktt for your.
I guess you had bad luck in doing that.
I hope that you can fix for probablum.
Had this sort of problem before. It has happened to me two times so far with sometimes two or three parts of documents being pasted together. My suggestion would be that you create documents on your braille sense in the text format supported in notepad. That way there is not so much formatting information in the document and it is more likely to be able to be recovered even if bits and pieces are missing. I usually back up my braille sense every other day. I usually copy the "my documents" folder to a thumb drive and date it so that I have a few back-ups in case this happens again. The fix for you now that is probably your best option is use windows explorer to copy all the files you can from the disk. Also run a scan disk on the internal drive on the unit or which ever drive you have your files stored on. I was able to recover about 90 percent of my text files in lost clusters with this strategy. If you want some help with this feel free to pm me. As for fixing the braille sense you'll need to reformat the flash disk to fix the problem. Since this erases all the data make sure to run the scan disk before you do this. I would recommend doing a hard reset with the fast forward key held down. Then go to utilities and format the flash disk then do another hard reset on the unit, again with the fast forward key held down. Hope all this helps.
You're definitely speaking in a language I can understand. I generally do back up my files, and was truly about to after I had finished this particular document. I also usually write my files in DOC format; is that bad? I never usually use the HBLIND format. But would that be tantamount to using TXT? Or is DOC the problem?
Okay, so you're saying I should copy my files to a thumb drive and perform a scan disk on that drive? Will that delete files also? Will back things up just in case.
I did do the hard reset, also, but will format my flashdisk as well. Been meaning to do that anyway.
Thank you!
Note: Tried scanning the flashdisk. It said it was unable to be completed. o.0 Now I know I'm doing something wrong hahah.
